The City has secured federal funds to enhance access from The Strand to the beach. The project includes removal and replacement of stairs at 21st, 25th, 29th, 30th, 32nd, 33rd, and 35th Streets; rehabilitation of existing stairs and balusters at 8th, 10th, 14th, 16th, 18th, 20th, 23rd, 24th, 26th, 31st, and 34th Streets, Marine Avenue and Rosecrans Avenue; and, installation of two new wheelchair ramps leading from the Strand to the Bike Path immediately south of Marine Avenue and immediately south of 26th Street.
The first public meeting was held on January 10, 2013. Valuable input was received from participants with regard to types of railing material and design elements. The objective of the second meeting is to present design elements based on the input received and continue to solicit public input. Design consultant representatives and City project management staff will be in attendance to discuss the project and answer questions.
