REGISTRATION: Charlie Saikley 6-Man Beach Volleyball Tournament

2013 Charlie Saikley 6-Man Beach Volleyball Tournament will be held July 31 and August 1, 2013.

Thank you for your interest in the Charlie Saikley 6-Person Beach Volleyball Tournament. Due to the popularity of this event, The City of Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department, The Manhattan Beach Police Department, LA County Beach and Harbors, and LA County Lifeguards have evaluated the event and have agreed on the following tournament guidelines. The Tournament changes have been carefully determined to alleviate any serious problems and future concerns. Your cooperation, accountability and implementation of the following rules would be greatly appreciated. This tournament is sanctioned by the California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA).  For the most up to date information, please visit the International Surf Festival website. EARLY BIRD ONLINE REGISTRATION BEGINS APRIL 12, 2013. PRICES WILL INCREASE AFTER, JULY 1, 2013.

Guidelines

  • Any goods brought into the tournament area are subject to inspection (i.e. coolers, bags, backpacks, etc.).
  • Teams are subject to disqualification from this tournament and possible future tournaments for inappropriate player behavior (i.e. BRINGING OR ALLOWING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES in your assigned tent area, fighting, arguing with referees/players, pulling nets, disobeying a lawful order by an event Police Officer, Los Angeles County Life Guard, Security Officer and/or City Official or any other behavior deemed unacceptable by the Tournament Director).

**Local businesses
Local businesses are defined as single store businesses that are not part of a regional or national chain.

  • Local sponsored teams ARE ALLOWED to use the name of a LOCAL business.
  • All sponsored teams (including local businesses) must be cleared by calling Beachsport at (310) 924-5111.
  • Teams may use their local business name on t-shirts, shorts, bathing suits and hats only.
  • NO sponsor signage on tents, banners or distribution of any promotional materials or distribution of product will be allowed.

**Sponsored Teams or Corporate Sponsorship
If you would like to promote your business or distribute materials, you may become a sponsor of the International Surf Festival (ISF). Corporate sponsors may be able to increase their footprint and signage, and secures pre-tournament placement. All sponsors MUST register through the Beachsport website or call (310) 924-5111. ANY team found marketing their business outside of the tournament or in association with the ISF in any way will be disqualified. This includes reference to the tournament for pre or after parties or ANY marketing materials.

Registration

  • Registration begins on Friday, April 12, 2013 for all divisions. ONLINE REGISTRATION ONLY
  • REGISTRATION PRICES WILL INCREASE AFTER JULY 1, 2013.
  • A photocopy of each Team Manager’s Driver’s License or CA Identification Card must be submitted with the team roster after registering online. Copies may be submitted in person or by mail to the City of Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department, 1400 Highland Avenue, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.

Check-In

  • Teams will be given a predetermined location for their 10 foot by 10 foot canopy at check-in on Tuesday, July 30th at the base of the Pier from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM or Wednesday, July 31st beginning at 7 AM.
  • All teams are to check in with the Tournament Director before 8:00 AM on Wednesday, regardless of weather.
  • If you registered a team last year or have a sponsored team, you may request specific tent locations.

Canopy Check-In and Guidelines

  • Each team will be given a designated location on the beach predetermined by the tournament director. Each team will be limited to one (1) 10 foot by 10 foot canopy. Teams will be responsible for all items in the canopy. Please do not bring valuable personal items to the event.
  • Each team member on the team roster will be issued a wristband which must be worn at all times.
  • No rental company deliveries allowed.
  • No snow fencing allowed in canopies, on the beach, etc.
  • All canopies must be open and accessible on all four sides (per Los Angeles County Municipal Code and tournament rules).
  • Areas for team set-up will be assigned at check-in. Any team that sneaks onto the set-up area or uses more than one 10 foot by 10 foot canopy will be removed from the event.

Awards

  • Men’s and Women’s Open Division - ten individual first, second and third place awards will be given (t-shirts and medals)
  • Master’s division – ten individual first and second place awards will be given (t-shirts and medals).

Rules

  • The City of Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to make decisions pertaining to entries, rules, and general procedures governing this tournament. California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) (PDF) rules will be used for this tournament.
  • Type of play will be determined by the number of entries received in each division.
  • Masters teams players ages are determined by your age on the day of the tournament.
  • All players must play on Saturday, in order to play on Sunday.
  • Additional rules include: no net serves, original court size (long court) and white leather ball, must rotate players, no libero, no open hand serve receive, and only the team captain may address the official.

Other Guidelines

  • Teams are subject to disqualification from this tournament and possible future tournaments for inappropriate player behavior (i.e. BRINGING OR ALLOWING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES in your assigned tent area, fighting, arguing with referees/players, pulling nets, disobeying a lawful order by an event Police Officer, Los Angeles County Lifeguard, Security Officer and/or City Official or any other behavior deemed unacceptable by the Tournament Director).
  • No unsealed beverage containers into the event and alcoholic beverages.
  • No amplified music. Megaphones may be used, but must receive approval by the Tournament Director BEFORE use for each team.
  • No props are allowed (.i.e. basketball hoops, plywood structures, metal structures etc.).
  • No generators are allowed on the beach.
  • No large coolers into event site (small, personal coolers only).
  • No household furniture allowed (i.e. couches, recliners, etc.).
  • No hanging of banners, flags, balloons etc.
  • Team themes and customs should not be graphically offensive to a reasonable person or young juvenile and acceptable to a family standard.

Note to Team Managers
You will be solely responsible for your team. Failure to abide by the rules (ESPECIALLY REGARDING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES and FIGHTING) may cause disqualification of your team or a player on your team. Tournament director has the final say for all rules and regulations.
