Would you like to find out more about the local shark population, and methods to help minimize conflict with sensitive wildlife and ocean users? Then be sure to attend the Sharks in Manhattan Beach: Pier Fishing and Community Awareness presentation.
The City and the Roundhouse Aquarium have invited Dr. Chris Lowe of CSULB’s Shark Lab back to Manhattan Beach to discuss his research on sharks and share his theories on why so many sharks call the South Bay home. To view Dr. Lowe's previous presentation in Manhattan Beach, please visit the Pier Fishing webpage.
Heal the Bay will also present initial findings from the Pier Angler Outreach Program which educates anglers and pier visitors about safe fishing practices. The program will collect data on fishing activities at the Manhattan Beach Pier, and the data can be used to inform recommendations that protect public safety and marine life.
Information regarding the City’s Pier Fishing Rules is available on the Going Green website.
For any questions about this event or to RSVP, please email Sona Coffee, the City's Environmental Programs Manager, or contact her at (310) 802-5341.
This meeting will be broadcast live through the Manhattan Beach Local Community Cable, Channel 8 (Time Warner), Channel 35 (Verizon), and Live Webcast via the City's website. The public is encouraged to attend. Post meeting webcast may be viewed on demand at www.citymb.info/MBTV.
