Today's activity is a Safety Workshop with Al Johnson and The Park Ranger

The Summer Vacation Enrichment Playground Program is open to the public and is designed for children ages 6-12 years old who live in Manhattan Beach, attend school in Manhattan Beach or whose parents work in the City of Manhattan Beach.  The Summer Vacation program is available at the parks listed below. Children under six are welcome to attend the program but must be accompanied by an adult or guardian with the approval and guidance of the Recreation Leader. The Playground Program is a drop-in, NON-CUSTODIAL program. Children are encouraged to participate in all scheduled activities; however, if they choose not to, alternative independent activities are available. All programs are supervised by trained recreation leaders.

Marine Camp is open to the public and is designed for children ages 6-12 years old at Marine Avenue Park. Children under six are welcome to attend the program but must be accompanied by an adult or guardian with the approval and guidance of the Recreation Leader. Marine Camp is a PAID FULL-CUSTODY program. Children are encouraged to participate in all scheduled activities; however, if they choose not to, alternative independent activities are available. All programs are supervised by trained recreation leaders. Marine Camp is in conjunction with the Summer Vacation Enrichment Playground Program. The camp is limited to 80 campers each week!

What is a Safety Workshop with Al Johnson and The Park Ranger?
Al Johnson (instructor for "Realistic Self Defense") and Park Ranger Brent Malatesta will discuss a variety of safety topics and how to avoid getting into dangerous situations.  They will also give tips on realistic self defense techniques against blunt instruments, grabs, holds and punches.  Participants will be taught how to become more aware of their surroundings and when it is appropriate to defend themselves.
