We Can Help With Your Questions

  • Date: -

Due to the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and to honor social distancing mandates, the Prop 218 Refuse public Community Meeting scheduled for April 1, 2020 in the Council Chambers was canceled. The City of Manhattan Beach is providing this descriptive Power Point presentation (PDF) in lieu of the meeting.  Please take a look through the Power Point slides. Instead of a live Question & Answer period, please submit all questions to Anna Luke-Jones in the Public Works Department by email at aluke@citymb.info or phone at (310) 802-5363. Thank you so much in advance for your patience during these difficult and unique circumstances.

What was the purpose of the Prop 218 public Community Meeting?
On March 11, 2020, the City of Manhattan Beach mailed a legally required Proposition 218 notice to all Manhattan Beach property owners and rate payers (and tenants in an abundance of communication) regarding the proposed increase to solid waste rates with the new Waste Management contract scheduled to begin on July 1, 2020.  California voters passed Proposition 218 in 1996.  The purpose of the public Community Meeting was to further explain the Proposition 218 process and answer questions from the public.  Because the meeting had to be canceled, the City still wanted to provide this greater explanation and an opportunity to ask questions - which is the reason for the descriptive Power Point and contact information of an employee who can assist with questions.
