AARP TAX-AIDE 2021: UPDATE February 10, 2021

AARP TAX-AIDE 2021
The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide will be providing free tax preparation service for the upcoming tax season, including in Manhattan Beach. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, and Tax-Aide’s effort to abide by all safety standards, there will be changes in the way we offer our service.

The IRS has delayed the tax filing season to begin February 12, 2021. The AARP Tax-Aide phone line will open on February 3rd to get information to interested individuals, explain the process and available options, and make appointments for tax document scanning. AARP Tax-Aide will now begin later as well, starting February 15th. Your return will be prepared remotely, and AARP will be communicating with you over the phone or through videoconferencing. AARP Tax-Aide will work with you to decide the best approach that suits your circumstances. Our process requires that your tax documents be digitized and you can do this yourself and email them to us, or you can come to one of our scanning sites where we can do it for you. Rest assured that our approach provides the capability to prepare returns in a safe, minimal contact manner.

1. Call the AARP Tax-Aide phone line (424) 256-5194 starting February 3, 2021; Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM to speak to an AARP Tax-Aide volunteer to start the process. Callers will receive a packet of information emailed to them, if someone doesn’t have email there will other arrangements made to get the packet to the person.
2. Once ALL documents have been completely filled out, you can scan and email the documents to AARP or you may make an appointment to bring the documents to the Manhattan Beach Scout House where Tax-Aide volunteers will scan them for you. These appointments will most likely be on Wednesdays.
3. Once all documents have been received by AARP Tax-Aide, you will receive a call or videoconference the next day from the tax preparer and the return will be completed through this interview.
4. The preparer will input all the data and send the return to you by email link. If you DO NOT have an email, the tax preparer will make alternative arrangements with you. The preparer will go through the return line by line.
5. Once the tax return is completed, the preparer will file the return electronically.

The first day for scanning tax related documents in Manhattan Beach will begin on February 17, 2021. Do not show up to have your documents scanned without first calling the AARP Tax-Aide phone line (424) 256-5194 starting February 3, 2021; Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM to speak to an AARP Tax-Aide volunteer. AARP Tax-Aide will begin doing returns remotely starting February 15, 2021. NO IN-PERSON RETURNS PREPARED.

Tax-Aide has developed a program that provides the capability to prepare returns in a safe, minimal contact manner. Our volunteers have embraced these efforts and are currently being prepared and trained so that much of what we do will be transparent to our clients and result in the same quality returns preparation and support, we have provided in prior years.
