Volunteers Needed
Lunches with Love has asked if we could help make 50 sandwiches to be delivered to the homeless in Los Angeles. Help a good cause, hone your sandwich-making skills and join us at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Joslyn Community Center (1601 Valley Drive). Everything will be supplied. Afterwards, stay for the OASIS Movie Club and watch The Race to Witch Mountain.
Lunches with Love History
It all began with friends talking, sharing and coming up with an idea to help others in need. Anne and Cathy from Super Sports shared with Linda and Nick Cote (MCC tennis pro) their idea about taking lunches downtown to Skid Row and passing out food to the homeless. They decided to form a monthly gathering known as Lunches with Love by the c.l.a.n. (Cathy, Linda, Anne, and Nick).
What Lunches with Love Does
We collect lunches from our community and deliver them to the homeless. The first day we collected about 50 lunches and the numbers started to grow. In 2007, we handed out over 7,000 lunches, but there are still many women, children and men living on the streets of Los Angeles who need to be fed.
