On February 17, 2015 the City Council approved the Downtown Crosswalk replacement and Slurry Seal Project. This project addresses maintenance issues of the downtown streetscape area. Work will be performed by Excel Paving Co. The streets that will be worked on are the following:
- Manhattan Beach Boulevard between Valley Drive/ Ardmore and the Strand
- Manhattan Avenue between 8th Street and 13th Street
- Highland Avenue between 8th Street and 10th Street
The work will consist of:
- Removing deteriorated blue tiled crosswalks and replacing with a new stamped blue asphalt tile pattern
- Replacing broken or dislodged sidewalks, curbs and gutters
- Minor street repairs
- Slurry Sealing of the Downtown area
Construction is scheduled to start Tuesday September 8, 2015. The contractor will have 45 working days to complete the work. The contractor will be permitted to work from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays in order to assure completion of the project before the Holiday season. Parking prohibitions will be posted 72 hours in advance. The nature of the project focuses on the crosswalks, which will directly affect pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The City will make every effort to maintain at least one open lane in each direction, though at times street closure will be required.
