The City of Manhattan Beach has partnered with Project 529, a cross-jurisdictional bicycle registration platform that assists law enforcement and citizens in the event of a theft, damage, or sale of bicycle.
The Manhattan Beach Police Department encourages you to register your bicycle for free at Project 529 website or through the Project 529 Garage App. If a registered bicycle is found, the information provided at registration makes it easier for authorities to reunite an owner with the bicycle.
Please bring proof of your bicycle registration to the Front Desk of the Police Department for a free Shield (tamper-resistant/weather-resistant decal) which adds an extra identifier and layer of protection.
Here are some precautions to help protect your bicycle from being stolen:
Always securely lock your bicycle. Use a U-lock, securing both wheels and the frame to a stationaryobject such as a post, fence, tree, or bike rack. For extra security, add a chain or cable with a good padlock.
When your bicycle is at home, do not leave it in the yard, driveway, patio or open garage. Keep it in a locked garage or storage room or inside the residence.
Record the serial number of your bicycle and keep it with the sales receipt and a photograph of the bike.
Mark your bicycle with unique number/engraver to deter thieves. This also helps the police in identifying and returning your stolen bicycle to you.
