It is truly one of the most beautiful and scenic public properties in the area. Situated on a sloping terraced grassy hillside, the approximately three-acre park is one of the best ocean and sunset viewing areas away from the beach. A small basketball half-court is located in the center of the park and numerous shade trees and park benches are strategically located near the top of the park for resting and relaxation.
Reservations are not accepted for this park.
Note: There is a dog-on-Leash area on the lower west end of the park, just west of the basketball courts. Please download and read the Bruce's Beach On-Leash Dog Area Rules (PDF) before taking your dog to the park.
In the wake of the murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, the City Council directed staff to research and present the history of Bruce's Beach for discussion at a City Council meeting in August 2020. Following the presentation and discussion, the City Council voted to create a since disbanded resident-led task force to further research and properly acknowledge the City's racially motivated eminent domain action to dispossess Willa and Charles A. Bruce, Major George and Mrs. Ethel Prioleau, Elizabeth Patterson, Mary R. Sanders, Milton and Anna Johnson, as well as white property owners, of their property in the 1920s. The task force has concluded their work and the City Council has directed that a plaque and an art piece be placed in the park. Both the plaque and the art will commemorate the legacy of the residents of Bruce's Beach in the 1920s. For more information, please visit the Bruce's Beach webpage.

Located at 1601 North Valley Drive
Developed in 1939
One of the oldest City parks, Live Oak encompasses almost nine acres and, among other things, is the site of the annual Old Hometown Fair in October. One of the City's most cherished "tot lots" is located in this park, along with an older children's play area.
Six lighted tennis courts in the park are used frequently for classes, private matches and several tennis tournaments sponsored by the City. One lighted basketball court and two large lighted multipurpose fields make this park a favorite destination for community members.
Several picnic areas can accommodate from a dozen to 50 people and include two barbecues. Restrooms and drinking fountains are also available.
Several community buildings are located in this park, including the Live Oak Recreation Center which houses a tennis office and ceramics studio. Joslyn Community Center is home to a senior club and is available to the general public for meetings, parties or other gatherings. The facility includes an auditorium and stage, meeting rooms, kitchen, library and dance and exercise studio. The Scout House is a rustic meeting room used for scouting activities only.
Live Oak Park is also the site of the Martin Ganz Memorial, dedicated to the police officer who was killed in the line of duty on December 27, 1993. Designed by William Mikus, the public artwork is positioned under two sycamore trees. In the center of the blue concrete base sits a monolith with Officer Ganz's name, birth date and day of his death. Atop the centerpiece is a casting of the helmet Ganz wore as a traffic officer, his gloves, keys, sunglasses and badge. The artwork is surrounded by ten concrete seats for visitors.
Ample parking for Live Oak Park visitors is available across the street from the park and along the curb which borders Valley Drive. Please note, parking along Valley Drive (between 15th Street and the crosswalk near the Tennis Courts) is limited to 4 hours (effective 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Saturday) as indicated by signage.

Manhattan Village Field
1300 Parkview Avenue west of Manhattan Country Club
Developed in 1985
With the development of the Chevron Oil Company property in the northeast quadrant of the city, the City received this park site along with the land on which the westdrift Manhattan Beach (formerly the Marriott Golf Course) was developed. The City leases the golf course property to private operators. The golf course and the Manhattan Village Park are both open to the public.
Situated on three acres of land, the park consists of a full size soccer field, a children's play area, picnic tables and restrooms. Ample parking is located in front of the park, behind the Manhattan Village Shopping Center. This is a lovely quiet area well situated to the surrounding neighborhoods and shopping centers.
Reservations are accepted at this park for the field only. For reservations please call (310) 802-5448.

Marine Avenue Skate Spot Rules (PDF) |
The Marine Avenue Skate Spot was officially opened to the public on Saturday, March 18th, 2017.
Dating back to 2013, Spohn Ranch helped the City of Manhattan Beach analyze sites, host public input meetings and conduct a skate spot feasibility study. Open space within City limits was limited, making the process challenging, but the City ultimately landed on Marine Avenue Park as the designated home for their first Skate Spot.
The skate spot is located in the northeast corner of Marine Avenue Park, just past the baseball diamond’s outfield and adjacent to Manhattan Beach Studios.
The skate spot is 6,000 square feet of concrete and state-of-the-art terrain. Transition elements line the perimeter of the skate spot and feed a street section in the center with stairs, rails and ledges.

Polliwog Park has been featured as one of the best parks in Los Angeles to have a birthday party!
Check out the article on Red Tricycle
1601 Manhattan Beach Boulevard, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266
(Located at the corner of Redondo Avenue and Manhattan Beach Boulevard)
Developed in 1964; expanded in 1975
Encompassing 18 acres, this is the largest and perhaps loveliest park in the South Bay area. The property belongs to the Manhattan Beach Unified School District and is leased to the City.
Nestled within the community, Polliwog Park offers a tranquil oasis centered around a beautiful pond that serves dual purposes. Not only does the pond provide a small serene backdrop for visitors seeking a peaceful escape in nature, but it also plays a crucial ecological role. Acting as a natural wildlife preserve, the pond supports a diverse range of local flora and fauna, creating a vibrant habitat for various species, especially for our migratory bird populations. Additionally, it functions as an effective Los Angeles County retention basin during rainy periods, helping to manage stormwater runoff and protect the surrounding environment.
To ensure the health and sustainability of this vital ecosystem, we have implemented important conservation practices. We kindly remind our visitors that fishing is strictly prohibited, and feeding the wildlife, especially the birds, is not allowed. These measures are essential to maintain the delicate balance of the pond's natural inhabitants and to prevent disruptions that could lead to ecological imbalances. By respecting these guidelines, you help us preserve the beauty and biodiversity of the park for future generations to enjoy.
Play areas include a large lighthouse inspired play apparatus with several slides including a spiral tube slide, misters, a small sand area and three separate areas for younger children filled with colorful and imaginative climbing and exploration equipment. Premier Little League Field is located adjacent to the park. The picnic area is comprised of a number of tables and six barbecues which can accommodate large groups.
Also adjacent to the park is Begg Pool which is open during the summer for classes and recreational swimming.
On the southwest corner of the park is the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden. Run by volunteers, the garden is now open to the public on a regular basis. Individuals wishing to help with the garden or who want to schedule a docent-lead viewing of the garden may call Julie Gonella, (310) 546-1354 for more information.
The park contains restroom facilities, drinking fountains, and brand new fitness court. Numerous park benches, grassy mounds and shady areas make this an ideal spot for all types of recreational activities including just relaxing or enjoying a conversation with friends.
The new Fitness Court is designed to provide a full body workout in only seven minutes, all for free! Download the National Fitness Court app to unlock access to the world's largest fee outdoor gym network and expert training.
Curbside parking is available along Redondo Avenue and Manhattan Beach Boulevard.

The dog run continues to garnish positive feedback from resident dog owners. One customer commented, “PARKS AND RECREATION TRULY MAKE LIFE BETTER NOT ONLY FOR ALL OF US BUT EVEN FOR THE FOUR LEGGED MEMBERS OF OUR FAMILIES, OUR DOGS”.
Please review the Polliwog Park Dog Run Rules and Etiquette (PDF) before visiting the dog run. Dogs are permitted, on leash, along designated pathways parallel with Begg Pool and soccer field.
