Los Angeles County West Vector Control Board Trustee

The Los Angeles County West Vector and Vector-Borne Disease Control District was formed in 1944 and covers approximately 680 square miles, contains 23 cities, including the City of Manhattan Beach, and unincorporated territory of Los Angeles County.  The purpose of the control district is to educate the public about vector-transmitted diseases, vector related injuries and provide additional information on services offered by the control district.  Each city and county within the boundaries of the district, may appoint one (1) representative each to the Los Angeles County West Vector Control Board of Trustees.

*At the March 21, 2023, City Council meeting, the City Council accepted the resignation of Trustee Jake Dupree. Mr. Dupree will fulfill his duties through June. On May 2, 2023, Wayne Powell was appointed to fill the seat left vacant by Mr. Dupree beginning on July 1, 2023, and ending on December 31, 2024.

At the May 7, 2024, City Council meeting, the City Council appointed Hilary Rosen as the next Trustee. Her term will begin January 1, 2025, and will expire on December 31, 2026. 

  • First time appointees are appointed for a two (2) year term; thereafter, a trustee may be appointed to a two (2) or four (4) year term at the discretion of City Council.  There is no maximum tenure for this appointment.
  • The appointed Trustee must be a resident and an elector (registered to vote) of the City from which they are appointed.
  • The regular meetings of the Board of Trustees are held once every two months on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the District's headquarters located at 6750 Centinela Avenue, Culver City. There are a total of six meetings per year (January, March, May, July, September, November). 
  • Trustees who attend the regularly scheduled meetings are compensated with a payment of $100 in lieu of expenses. By law, the Trustee must attend the meeting to receive compensation. No trustee can receive more than $100 per month for serving on the Board regardless of the number of meetings. 

Commission/Board Facts

  • It is customary for Commissioners and Boardmembers to serve on one Commission at a time. Should there be an insufficient amount of applicants for the Board of Building Appeals, Resolution No. 5702 authorizes the City Council to appoint qualified members of Boards and Commissions to serve concurrently on the Board of Building Appeals, as well.
