Interested in seeing what goes on in the City of Manhattan Beach?  Check out the City's "always on" connection to it's local community cable, Channel 8.  This video stream provides local community news and programming for residents (and non-residents) who do not subscribe to cable TV.  In addition to fine programming such as "Manhattan Life" and "Beach Beat Crime Watch," City Council and Planning Commission meetings are broadcasted live.  These meetings are also archived online to be viewed on-demand 24 hours a day.  This service is intended to increase citizen access to City's official public meetings.   

New in July of 2007, the City of Manhattan Beach announced its new podcast service.  This method of publishing audio programs via the Internet, allows users to subscribe to a "feed" of new audio files (usually MP3s).  To subscribe to podcasts, you need "podcasting" software (also called a podcast reader or aggregator), which periodically checks for and downloads new content automatically.  The most popular free podcasting software is iTunes.  Note, although podcast combines the words 'iPod" and "broadcast," it does not require an Apple iPod. Once you download a podcast, you can listen to it on your computer or copy it onto your iPod or other portable music player. 

The streaming video service has been designed to be compatible with most computers, including Microsoft Windows and Macintosh.  This provided service requires a recent version of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Chrome as a web browser and Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher installed on your personal computer.

High speed Internet access such as DSL or Cable Modem is recommended for optimum viewing.  Users with dial-up Internet access will normally get only audio and text.  Please note that Internet streaming video takes 15 to 20 seconds longer to reach your PC than cable television due to the technology process and is not within the City's control.
