Become a Certified Manhattan Beach Green Business
Manhattan Beach Green Businesses discuss the benefits of the recognition program and their experiences with becoming certified.
Does your company incorporate practices to reduce waste, save water, or reduce energy consumption? Do you want to learn how your business can do more? Find out about this new program to recognize and assist businesses in Manhattan Beach that are moving towards sustainability.
Program participants benefit from a healthier workplace; significant cost savings and access to financial incentives/rebates; a “green seal” to place on their door or window; and an invitation to an annual awards ceremony hosted by Waste Management and the City of Manhattan Beach.
As of 2023, the Manhattan Beach Green Business network has certified 100 businesses. Below are the benefits to the environment resulting from their practices:
- Total GHG emissions saved 938 tons (1,876,000 lbs.)
- Equivalent of planting 2,917 acres of urban trees
- Total Energy saved 1.4 million kwh
- Total amount of solid waste diverted1,313 tons (2,626,000 lbs.)
- Total water saved 8 million gallons

SEED Awards
SoCal Environmental Excellence Development (SEED) Awards is a Program run by the South Bay Business Environmental Coalition (SBBEC) to honor local individuals, groups, and businesses that have exhibited excellence in helping to improve environmental sustainability and quality of life in the South Bay. Awards are presented to those who have made extraordinary efforts in any of the following areas:
- Environmental Leadership
- Pollution Prevention
- Education and Outreach
- Resource Preservation
- Innovation
- Steve Uselton Memorial Bridge-Builder Award
One of the 2015 SEED Awards went to local organization Grades of Green for their creativity in implementing sustainability initiatives in school programs. Honorees were selected by a panel of local government representatives in partnership with SBBEC. Visit the SBBEC website to find out more about the program.
