Earth Day "Book-to-Action" Beach Cleanup

Celebrate this Earth Day with a very special beach cleanup hosted by the Surfrider Foundation South Bay Chapter, the Beach Cities Read program, and the City of Manhattan Beach

During the month of April, the Beach Cities Public Libraries invite the community to participate in a Book-to-Action series featuring the title Plastic Ocean:  How a Sea Captain's Chance Discovery Launched a Determined Quest to Save the Oceans by Captain Charles Moore

The Book-to-Action program encourages participants to read and discuss the book, and then engage in community service projects related to the book's topic -- plastic pollution in the marine environment.

The City of Manhattan Beach is a leader in the effort to prevent plastic pollution from reaching the beach and ocean. From the City's plastic bag and polystyrene bans, to the Bring Your Own campaign, Manhattan Beach encourages individuals to reduce the impact their choices make on the planet.

The City has partnered with the Beach Cities Read program and the Surfrider Foundation to host this Earth Day beach cleanup to put into action solutions to the problem of plastic pollution on our beach and in the ocean.

Join us on Saturday, April 23rd from 10:00 AM - noon, on the sand just south of the Manhattan Beach Pier. There will be educational information, sustainable living giveaways, Earth Day activities at the Roundhouse Aquarium, and lots of fun surprises for beach cleanup volunteers.

Parking in the area is very limited, so please walk, ride your bike, or carpool to the event. Local parking options are listed on the City's website. The Surfrider Foundation will provide gloves and reusable buckets to collect trash, but participants are encouraged to bring their own.
