As part of the City of Manhattan Beach’s effort to provide the public with quality and safe access to the beach, the City is repairing/replacing the staircases that lead from The Strand to the beach. The Phase 1 work has been completed and stairs at the following streets were repaired/replaced: 10th, 17th, 19th, 23rd, 29th, 30th, 38th and 42nd.
The Phase 2 work will include the removal/replacement of staircases at eighteen (18) locations, and construction will be ongoing through May 2017.
Phase 2 work will occur at the following streets: 8th, 14th, 16th, 18th, 20th, 21st, 24th, 25th, 26th, 29th, 30th, 31st, 32nd, 33rd, 34th, 35th, and Marine and Rosecrans Avenue.
Note: Construction will not occur on holidays.
The construction hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Note that stairs that are to be replaced may be shut down for several weeks. After the new concrete stairs have been poured, measurements have to be taken for the new handrails. After measurements have been taken, the stairs will remain closed for approximately (3) weeks while the handrails are being fabricated.
Please also note that periodically there will be trucks on, and adjacent to, the Strand as the contractor offhauls debris after demolishing the existing stairs.
The Public Works Department wants to thank all affected residents in advance for their cooperation and understanding.
