Manhattan Beach Pier Bollard Construction Project

  • Date: -
  • Location: Manhattan Beach Pier

The City Council recently awarded the Pier Bollard construction project to Excel Paving Company. The existing bollards at the Manhattan Beach Pier, on the west side of the existing bike path, will be replaced with stainless steel bollards. Also, a new row of stainless steel bollards that are vehicle crash rated will be installed on the east side of the bike path.

Construction is expected to start the week of March 27th 2017 and is anticipated to be completed by May 26th 2017 or sooner, weather permitting. The contractor will be working between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The installation of the new row of bollards along the east side of the bike path will require foundation work to meet the vehicle crash rating requirements.

During early stages of the construction operations, foundation excavation work may temporarily impact access to one of the adjacent lower level parking lots at the end of Manhattan Beach Boulevard from time to time. This is necessary to ensure worksite safety for the parking patrons and the construction workers as well. The contractor will cover all excavations at the end of each work day to allow access to the parking lots thereafter.

During construction, the contractor will utilize a minimal number of the parking spaces in the south side lower level parking lot for staging and storage of materials. The construction site will not impede pedestrian access to the pier, bike path or beach during construction.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this project, please contact the City’s Public Works Engineering Division Project Manager, Ish Medrano at (310) 802-5357.
