As part of the Pacific Standard Time: LA-LA and the SUR: biennial collaboration with the TAM Torrance Art Museum and other South Bay institutions, Manhattan Beach Art Center (MBAC) will be presenting the work of Jose Lozano.

Chicano Trickster is a small survey of work by artist Jose Lozano. It consists of drawings, paintings and mixed media works spanning three decades. Lozano's figurative works address social realities with humor and satire. Having spent his childhood in Juarez Mexico, the work is imbued and informed by Mexican visual and popular culture. He credits George Grosz, Jose Clemente Orozco, Gilbert "Magu" Lujan and Matisse as visual mentors. His work is filled with narrative, asides, visual trickery and irreverence, hence a Chicano Trickster. He's published two children's books Once Around The Block and Little Chanclas. In 2015 he completed artwork for the Metro station on La Brea and Exposition called L.A. Metro Loteria. He 2007 he received a mid career grant from the California Community Foundation in painting. Lozano was born in Los Angeles, spent part of his childhood in Juarez Mexico. He grew up in Fullerton, CA. He received an Mater of Fine Art (MFA) from California State University Fullerton (CSUF).
