Registration for the first Climate Ready Manhattan Beach workshop is now open at this link.
The City is studying its vulnerability to climate change to better protect Manhattan Beach's coastline, public health, and infrastructure. Sea level rise, an increase in extreme heat days and more severe storms are all potential threats that the City intends to prepare for within Climate Ready MB. Studies and strategies will be documented in a series of technical reports and plans, including: a Sea level Rise Vulnerability Report, Sea Level Rise Adaptation Plan, Climate Action and Adaptation Plan, and an update to several existing City plans.
Engaging all voices of the community and stakeholders throughout the process of this project is key to ensuring long-term success. The first public meeting will be held on February 4th at 6 pm through Zoom. The objectives of this meeting are to:
· Provide an overview of Climate Ready MB
· Provide scientific context for climate change and sea level rise hazards
· Provide opportunities for people to ask questions and get answers
· Gather input on the community values for Manhattan Beach residents and visitors through polls and surveys
· Share next steps and future opportunities for public engagement
*Note: As a next step to the first public meeting, there will be three focus group meetings for Climate Ready MB on February 17th, 18th, and 23rd. Each small group meeting will provide the same content and allow for an intimate discussion of the preferred adaptation strategies to address coastal hazards identified in the Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment. The meetings are open to all and additional meetings may be added as needed to allow full community participation.
