FRAUD PREVENTION
Manhattan Beach Police Department and the City of Manhattan Beach IT Department

New data shows that the Federal Trade Commission received 2.8 million fraud reports from consumers in 2021, with consumers reporting losing more than $5.8 billion to fraud in 2021. One out of every eighteen older adults living in the community are victims of financial fraud or scams and the financial exploitation of older adults was recently recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions as a serious public health problem.

Knowledge is one of the best ways to protect yourself. On Tuesday, February 21 from 1-2:30 PM, following Lunch Bunch, join Manhattan Beach Police and the City of Manhattan Beach’s IT Department to learn about common scams, including phone calls, door to door sales scams, cyber/internet threats, etc. Detective Sergeant Taylor Klosowski, Detectives Mikelson and Brandt and Manhattan Beach Information Technology Director, Terry Hackelman will discuss scams, how to protect yourself and who to notify if you come across these issues.
