Training on Laws and Policies Governing Commission Meetings

PARKING AND PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS COMMISSION

The Parking and Public Improvements Commission (PPIC) is responsible for public parking issues, capital improvement projects, traffic management, activities within the public right-of-way including encroachment permits, undergrounding of utilities and environmental enhancement.  The Parking and Public Improvements Commission (PPIC) meets on the 4th Thursday of every month at 4:00 PM. PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION

The Parks and Recreation Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council regarding the recreational needs of all citizens and shall promote supervised public recreation within the City. The Commission consists of seven (7) members: four (4) at-large members, one (1) representative of the Older Adult community, one (1) representative from the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, and one (1) High School student. The Commission meets on the 4th Monday of every month at 4:00 PM. Meetings are subject to change; check the City Calendar to note any changes in the Commission Meeting schedule. 

CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION

The Cultural Arts Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council and is responsible for developing a master plan for cultural arts in the City, encouraging and supporting art education programs in the community and schools, participating in the Arts in Public Places selection process, and assisting in the Art in Civic Spaces Program.  The Commission consists of six (6) members:  one (1) artist representative, one (1) from the business and development community, three (3) at-large members and one (1) student representative.  The Commission meets on the third Monday of every month at 4:00 PM.  Meetings are subject to change.  Check the City Calendar to note any changes in the Commission meeting schedule.

LIBRARY COMMISSION

The Library Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council regarding library services provided by the Los Angeles County Library System to the citizens of Manhattan Beach.  The Commission also acts as a liaison between the City and public/private community groups supportive of library services.  The Commission consists of six (6) members, five (5) at-large members and one (1) student representative. The Commission meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 4:00 PM.  Meetings are subject to change; check the City Calendar to note any changes in the Commission Meeting schedule.

BOARD OF BUILDING APPEALS

Established by ordinance, pursuant to provisions of the California Building Code, the Board of Building Appeals hears requests for interpretation of Code provisions, alternative materials and methods of construction. The composition of the 5-member board is mandated by the Municipal Code and meets on an as-needed basis.

LOS ANGELES COUNTY WEST VECTOR CONTROL BOARD TRUSTTEE

The Los Angeles County West Vector and Vector-Borne Disease Control District was formed in 1944 and covers approximately 680 square miles, contains 23 cities, including the City of Manhattan Beach, and unincorporated territory of Los Angeles County.  The purpose of the control district is to educate the public about vector-transmitted diseases, vector related injuries and provide additional information on services offered by the control district.  Each city and county within the boundaries of the district, may appoint one (1) representative each to the Los Angeles County West Vector Control Board of Trustees.
