Prepare and protect! The City of Manhattan Beach is proud to participate in the annual Great California ShakeOut, a statewide earthquake preparedness drill. On October 17th at 10:17 AM, we will conduct a city-wide drill to ensure our community is ready to respond effectively in the event of a major earthquake. 

  • Event Date & Time: October 17, 2024, from 10:17 AM to 10:47 AM (PDT) 

  • City Hall Closure: City Hall will be closed for approximately 30 minutes from 10:17 AM to 10:47 AM (PDT) during the evacuation portion of the drill, simulating a real-life evacuation scenario following a large earthquake. 

  • Prepare with Ready.gov: Visit Ready.gov/earthquakes to learn more about what you, your family, and co-workers can do before, during, and after an earthquake. Download the MyShake App to receive real-time earthquake alerts and more. 

  • Safety Reminder: Remember, if an earthquake strikes, always DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON.
