2020 General Municipal Election - Official Results (PDF)
Resolution No. 20-0142 - Election Results (PDF)
Election results were posted to LA County's Election Results page after 8:00 PM on November 3 and were updated continuously through 6:00 AM on November 4, as needed. A graphical and text version of the results are available and will continue to be updated as the County completes their official canvass. The County plans on certifying the election results on November 30.
The County's schedule of tally updates as the canvass is completed is below. As updates are released, the City will add information pertaining to Manhattan Beach to each date.

Vote by Mail Ballot
All active registered voters will automatically be mailed a Vote by Mail ballot beginning October 5, to ensure a safe and accessible voting option during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Returning a Vote by Mail Ballot:
- Vote by Mail Ballot Drop Boxes – 24-Hour Drop Boxes have been installed throughout LA County in order for voters to securely return their Vote by Mail ballots. Voters can drop-off ballots 24-hours per day at any drop box location beginning October 5 until 8:00 PM on November 3.
- The City of Manhattan Beach will have two drop box locations available:
- South-side of the Manhattan Beach Art Center near the parking lot - 1560 Manhattan Beach Blvd.
- Manhattan Beach Library North Entrance – 1320 Highland Ave.
- The City of Manhattan Beach will have two drop box locations available:
- Vote Center Drop Off - Drop off your Vote by Mail ballot at any Vote Center leading up to and on Election Day. Voter Tip: You do not have to wait in line with those that are voting in-person just to drop off your ballot.
- Return by Mail – Drop off your ballot at your local Post Office. The ballot must be postmarked by Election Day (November 3). No postage necessary.
Track It! – The California Secretary of State recommends signing up for Where’s My Ballot? This is a new way for voters to track and receive notifications on the status of their Vote by Mail ballot. Voters can choose to receive automatic email, text, or voice call notifications about their ballot.
Vote Centers
Still Prefer to Vote In-Person?
- In-Person Vote Centers- LA County voters can decide to vote at ANY Vote Center in the County and are not limited to local polling places as in previous elections. Some Vote Centers will open as early as October 24, with all Vote Centers open October 30 – November 3.
- The City of Manhattan Beach will host two 5-day Vote Centers which allow for voting October 30-November 3:
- Joslyn Community Center Auditorium - Ocean Banquet Hall – 1601 N. Valley Drive.
- Manhattan Heights Community Center - Mt. Whitney Banquet Hall – 1600 Manhattan Beach Blvd.
- Hours of Operation for In-Person Voting:
- 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM during the early voting period(October 30-November 2 at Manhattan Beach locations)
- 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Election Day (November 3) – if you are in line by 8:00 PM on Election Day, you will still be given the opportunity to vote.
- The City of Manhattan Beach will host two 5-day Vote Centers which allow for voting October 30-November 3:

Filing Period for Nomination Papers and Candidate's Statements
The filing period for Nomination Papers and Candidate's Statements begins 7:30 AM on Monday, July 13, 2020 and ends at 4:30 pm on Friday, August 7, 2020. Candidates may pull and then file their Nomination Papers anytime during that period during Manhattan Beach City Hall Hours. If a qualified incumbent fails to file by 4:30 PM, Friday, August 7, 2020, non-incumbents may file during an extended period until 5:30 PM, Wednesday, August 12, 2020.
The filing period for Write-In Candidates begins Tuesday, September 8, 2020, and ends on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 5:30 PM.

Ordinance 20-0006 Regarding Campaigning and Campaign Contribution Limits
On July 21, 2020, the City Council Adopted Urgency Ordinance No. 20-0006-U(PDF) and Ordinance No. 20-0006(PDF) in order to prohibit the use of City resources for campaign activity, restricting political activity in and on City facilities within 90 days of an election, adjusting the campaign contribution limit to $300.00, and making the campaign finance provisions and definitions consistent with changes in state law. Urgency Ordinance No. 20-0006-U became effective immediately after adoption and Ordinance No. 20-0006 will be effective on August 21, 2020.

Campaign Signs
To report non-permitted campaign signs on public property, please contact the City Clerk’s Office at mbvote@citymb.info or (310) 802-5056.
To report suspicious activity regarding election signs, please contact the Manhattan Beach Police Department’s non-emergency dispatch line at (310) 802-5140.
General Election Information
The City Clerk is the local elections administrator for the City's General Municipal Election. The City Clerk's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: the preparation of necessary resolutions calling General or Special Municipal Elections; the coordination of the candidate nomination process; ballot designation and statement of qualification; the receipt and processing of initiative, referendum, and recall petitions; and the certification of election results.
In order to vote in an election, you must be a registered voter. Voter Registration Forms and other information can be obtained through any of the following means:

The next regularly scheduled local General Municipal Election will be held on November 3, 2020 for three City Councilmember seats and one City Treasurer seat. Any citizen in the City of Manhattan Beach may run for public office if the following general requirements are met:
- a citizen of the United States
- a legal resident and registered voter of the City of Manhattan Beach
- 18 years old or older on Election Day
- not under a court order declaring you mentally incompetent
- and not serving a court sentence for a felony or election law violation
More specific qualifications and filing deadlines to run for a particular office vary.
