Coastal Zone Standards

The coastal zone within the City of Manhattan Beach has its own set of land use and development regulations, which primarily match those of Area Districts III and IV from Title 10 (Planning and Zoning) of the Municipal Code. The municipal code standards can be used as a guide for most aspects of development within the coastal zone. Some of the notable differences are as follows:

Map   Some properties previously zoned CD near downtown have been rezoned to RH Those properties have not been rezoned on the coastal map and remain CD, which requires use permit approval of any residential use
10.64.030 In buildings with less than 4 units, only1 enclosed space is required for units with less than 550 square feet of floor area. All dwelling units require at least 2 parking spaces per unit.
10.64.060 Parking in-lieu payments are only provided for as a one time payment for the cost of a new public parking space. Parking space in-lieu payments are permitted to be paid in 5-year installments, and as a maximum of 2 quarterly permit leases from the city's oversubscription program per business.
