On February 21, 2023, the City Council directed the City to develop fees to recover costs related to EV charging at City facilities. Besides recovering the direct electricity costs, these fees could be used to maintain the equipment, replace equipment when it reaches the end of its useful life, and assist with funding the expansion of the City's EV charging program into additional facilities and locations along with improvements to current locations. At the Public Hearing that took place on April 16, 2024, the City Council approved establishing a fee of $0.51 per kWh effective July 1, 2024.
The City is updating the current EV Chargers to include a QR based payment unit and will communicate updates through various platforms, including social media and e-notifications. Stay tuned!
As of 2022, Manhattan Beach has over 113 charging outlets available, on both public and private land. A map of City-owned public EV chargers can be found here.
Additional information on charging stations can be found through the ChargeHub and EV Stations Local websites.
More information about these chargers...
The City of Manhattan Beach has installed four Clipper Creek electric vehicle charging stations in the lower Civic Center parking garage. The stations can be found on the west side of the parking garage and are reserved for electric vehicle drivers for 2-hours at a time, while the vehicle is charging.
Due to increasing demand for electric vehicle charging, the four charging stations located in the lower Civic Center parking lot will be metered and limited to two hours charging time in order to maximize the public’s opportunity to charge their electric vehicles. These meters will be enforced seven days per week, 24 hours per day.
The charging stations were the first public-use installations made available by the City (other charging stations are located at Walgreens, Manhattan Village, and Gelson's). The installation of these stations comes at no cost to the City, and was made possible through a grant from the California Energy Commission.
Thanks to funding from the Clean Transportation grant from AQMD's Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC), the City has also installed two additional public EV charging stations in Parking Lot 4 at the corner of Rosecrans Avenue and Highland Avenue. Similar to the charging stations at City Hall, these stations are available for use for 2-hours while the vehicle is charging.
Four total additional EV-chargers were purchased with the assistance of the AQMD (Air Quality Management District) MSRC Grant. Two chargers are located in Metlox Parking Garage (451 Manhattan Beach Blvd.) and two chargers are located in Public Parking Lot #3 (300 12th St.).
