The Manhattan Beach Police "Volunteers in Policing" are a team of trained citizen volunteers who assist Police Department with non-enforcement duties and value-added services that allow Officers to focus on crime reduction.

Volunteers will acquire a working knowledge of the policies and procedures of the Manhattan Beach Police Department and become proficient in the specific requirements of the activity for which they have volunteered.

The mission of the Volunteers in Policing program is to serve as a support service to the Manhattan Beach Police Department, enhancing the effectiveness of community policing through the provision of administrative and support services.

Positions Available
Volunteers can select a field suitable to their interests:

• Volunteers in Policing
• Neighborhood Watch Volunteer
• Victim Assistance Team
• Reserve Police Officer
• Police Explorers (Ages 14-21)

Qualifications

• 18 years of age or older
• Valid Drivers License
• Good driving record
• No felony convictions
• Current U.S. citizen
• Pass background check

Requirements

• Good people skills
• Work in an environment where confidentiality is critical
• Participate in team meetings and training opportunities 
• Present a professional appearance at all times
• Maintain a positive attitude
• Manhattan Beach resident (exceptions for Reserve Officers and Explorers)

Training
Police volunteers may receive training in but not limited to:

• Orientation and Organization
• Crime Prevention
• CPR and First Aid
• Introduction to Law
• Driver Awareness
• Patrol Procedures
• Traffic Control
• Radio Communications

Volunteers must complete the Community Police Academy, as well as one ride-along with a Patrol Officer as part of the training program.
