Animal Control Services

Enforcement
Through proactive patrol, Manhattan Beach Community Service Officers enforce applicable state and local statutes concerning the care and control of animals.

Wildlife: Opossums, Raccoons and Skunks

As of July 1, 2015, Animal Control will no longer have trap rentals available. If you see a sick, injured or deceased opossum, raccoon or skunk please call animal control dispatch at (310) 802-5159.

If you would like to have an opossum, raccoon or skunk removed from your property please contact a licensed private company that specializes in picking up wildlife. Refer to your local yellow pages under “Animal Removal Services” for information. It is your responsibility to make sure no harm comes to the animal and that it is properly handled by a professional. Animal Control officers will not remove trapped animals from your property.

If you decide to transport the animal out of the City of Manhattan Beach and dispose of it; you may be in violation of California Fish and Game codes and may be fined. You also run the risk of being injured by the animal when you try to release it. Wild animals may carry diseases such as rabies which can be transmitted to humans. It is advisable you contact a licensed professional for assistance.
