The Community Affairs Section strengthens relations between the Police Department and the public, interacts with and educates youth, gathers and disseminates statistical data, provides a variety of crime prevention programs, conducts security inspections, and coordinates volunteer activities.

The Community Affairs Section is committed to educating residents by:

Sharing crime prevention techniques to help them protect themselves and their property
Providing assistance to crime victims
Reducing the number of false alarm calls
Maintaining a positive and progressive work place for our volunteers who contribute thousands of hours of work for the welfare and safety of our entire community

The Community Affairs Section offers useful information regarding law enforcement programs, Personal Safety Tips, Home Safety Tips, and Vehicle Safety Tips (PDF) for residents of our community.

Also located in the Community Affairs office are Neighborhood Watch, the Victim Assistance Team (VAT), and the Volunteers in Policing Program (PDF).

The Community Affairs Section also coordinates the False Alarm Prevention Program.

WEEKLY CRIME REPORT

Each week, the Manhattan Beach Police Department’s Community Affairs Office disseminates a weekly crime report to our community and our local businesses. The crime report is also posted on Instagram (@ManhattanBchPD). MBPD informs the community of crime incidents in our city and provides crime prevention tips that may prevent future crimes. MBPD divides the city into 4 Patrol Areas. This division allows us to better map crime and identify crime trends.

COMMUNITY POLICE ACADEMY

Each year, the Community Affairs Section presents and hosts a “Community Police Academy,” designed to educate residents and local business people on various aspects of law enforcement. It also offers a deeper understanding of the issues and policies that a MBPD officer deals with on a daily basis. Participants graduate with a greater appreciation of MBPD’s role in maintaining public safety in the community.
