Investigations

The Investigations Section provides services to the community which ensure professional and thorough follow-up of reported criminal acts. Detectives follow-up on crime reports from Patrol Officers and investigate burglaries, auto theft, fraud cases, identity theft, elder abuse, crimes against children, and other types of crime. Detectives also conduct specialized internet and complex financial crime investigations. Some of these crimes require detectives to conduct undercover investigations and serve search and arrest warrants.

The Investigations Section is comprised of teams that investigate different types of crime:

  • Property Crimes
  • Crimes Against Persons
  • Fraud/forgery
  • Juvenile Crimes
  • Regional Narcotics Investigator

Each detective receives extensive training in his or her area of specialization, in addition to cross training in other areas.

School Resource Officer Program

Also operated out of Investigations is the School Resource Officer Program.  For more than 10 years, MBPD has assigned a full-time sworn officer to work in collaboration with school officials at the Manhattan Beach Unified School District to promote a safe environment in and around the local high school. In 2006, City Council approved an additional School Resource Officer (SRO) who is assigned to work at the local middle and elementary schools. The SROs strive to promote harmonious relationships by presenting themselves as positive role models, maintaining dialogue with students, and participating in school and youth events.
