Home Safety

Quick Home Safety Tips

  • Park your car in your garage whenever possible. If you park on the street, take your garage door opener and valuables in the house with you.
  • Lock your doors and windows and keep your garage door closed - an unlocked door or open window creates an attractive crime of opportunity for a thief.
  • Do not display holiday gifts where they will be visible through a window.
  • When you are away from home, make your home look occupied. Use timers to turn lights on, and consider leaving a radio or television on. If you are traveling for the holidays, this is especially important. Have a trusted friend or neighbor collect your mail and newspapers or have your service suspended while you are away.
  • If you see something that looks suspicious, call 9-1-1 immediately or (310) 545-4566 (dispatch non-emergency).

In order to help you reduce your risk of being burglarized, you can make an appointment for our Community Affairs Officer to come to your residence and conduct a security check. The Community Affairs Officer will evaluate your current security measures and provide you with written suggestions for secondary locking devices, lighting, or other security measures.

Security checks take approximately one hour to complete.
