May 16-22 is National Public Works Week! You may ask, "Why celebrate Public Works Week?" The Public Works Department provides vital core services to the community including street and park maintenance, refuse management, engineering, water, storm drains, sewer and landscaping. From the time you wake up to the time you go to bed (and even while you are sleeping!), Public Works affects how you live your life. Because of the role Public Works plays, this years' theme is "Above, Below, and All Around You!"
City Council will honor Public Works Week with a proclamation at the May 18, 2010 City Council meeting.
So the next time you brush your teeth, flush the toilet, drive on the newly paved Valley Drive, place your recycling bin at the curb, take your kids to the playground, and enjoy the city's amazing Pier and Roundhouse, remember that the Public Works Department is working to make Manhattan Beach the best place to live, work and play!
