Charlie Saikley 6-Person Beach Volleyball Tournament 2010: Application Process

Thank you for your interest in the Charlie Saikley 6-Person Beach Volleyball Tournament. Due to the popularity of this event, The City of Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department, The Manhattan Beach Police Department, LA County Beach and Harbors, and LA County Lifeguards have evaluated the event and have agreed on the following tournament guidelines. The Tournament changes have been carefully determined to alleviate any serious problems and future concerns. Your cooperation, accountability and implementation of the following rules would be greatly appreciated. This tournament is sanctioned by the California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA).

Guidelines

Any goods brought into the tournament area are subject to inspection (i.e. coolers,
bags, backpacks, etc.) -
Teams are subject to disqualification from this tournament and possible future
tournaments for inappropriate player behavior (i.e. BRINGING OR ALLOWING
ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES, fighting, arguing with referees/players, pulling nets, or
any other behavior deemed unacceptable by the Tournament Director). Teams who
violate these guidelines will be banned from the event for 5 years.
Entry Fee

Non-Sponsored Teams (masters division): $500 per team

Non-Sponsored Teams (open division): $1,100 per team

Up to 12 players with an additional $100 per person thereafter

Each of the above divisions are strictly limited to ONE 3’X5’ team name/sponsorship banner. No sampling of product, distribution of flyers, poster boards, logos, etc. will be allowed. **Sponsored teams are paying the additional cost for the promotion of their business name. All sponsored teams must contact BEACHSPORT.ORG or call (310) 924-5111 to confirm sponsorship details. Teams found not complying with guidelines will be disqualified from the tournament.
Corporate Sponsorship

Registration

There will be a mandatory team manager's meeting prior to the event. If you do not attend, your team will be removed from the tournament. Date to be determined.

The top 32 Men’s and Women’s Open Teams from the previous year are allowed to register beginning May 17, 2010 (team roster and paperwork must be verified by Tournament Director). If your team does not show up with enough players for Sunday’s first match play, you will lose your early registration privilege.

REGISTRATION FOR ALL OTHER TEAMS OPENS on June 1, 2010, 8:00 AM. Deadline is Friday July 2, 2010, 5:00 PM. FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED.

A photocopy of each Team Manager’s Driver’s License or CA Identification Card must be submitted with the application. Due to a dramatic increase in theft, each team must have a representative in their canopy visible at all times, even during their games. Please do not bring valuable personal items to the event!

Walk-in Registration ONLY at the Parks and Recreation Department counter in Manhattan Beach City Hall (1400 Highland Avenue, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266). No mail-in registrations will be accepted. Line starts at east door of City Hall (off 15th Street).

Roster must be filled out completely. Sign up early--don't be shut out!

Any team found selling their spot will be permanently disqualified from this event.
Check-In
-
Teams will be allowed to check in for set up on Friday at the base of the Pier from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and Saturday beginning at 6:00 AM. All teams are to check in with the Tournament Director before 8:00 AM on Saturday, regardless of weather.
Canopy Check-In and Guidelines

Each team will be given a designated location on the beach predetermined by the tournament director. Each team will be limited to ONE 10X10 canopy.

Check-in and set-up will begin at 3:00 PM at the base of the Pier.

Each team will be given a lanyard at check-in and must have a representative in their tent wearing it at all times, even during games. Failure to comply will result in team disqualification. Please do not bring valuable personal items to the event!

Each team member on the team roster will be issued a wristband which must be worn at all times.

No rental company deliveries allowed

No snow fencing allowed in canopies, on the beach, etc.

All canopies must be open/accessible on all four sides

Areas for team set-up will be assigned at check-in. Any team that sneaks onto the set-up area or uses more than one 10X10 canopy will be removed from the event.

Awards
-
Twelve individual first, second and third place awards will be given in both the Men's and
Women's Open divisions. -
Masters division – awards will be given for first and second place teams.
Rules

The City of Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to make decisions pertaining to entries, rules, and general procedures governing this tournament. The California Beach Volleyball Association (CBVA) rule book will be used.

Type of play will be determined by the number of entries received in each division.

Each team is limited to only three (3) professional players in both the Men's and Women's Open Divisions. Professional means: Men's rating 1-24; Women's rating, 1-24; all active current players. All players must play on Saturday, in order to play on Sunday.

Additional rules include: no net serves, original court size (long court) and white ball, must rotate, no libero, no open hand serve receive, only the team captain may address the official. All officials are United States Volleyball Association (USVBA) Certified.
Other Guidelines

Prohibit unsealed beverage containers into the event and alcoholic beverages
-
No amplified music on Saturday
-
No props allowed (basketball hoops, plywood structures)
-
No large coolers into event site (small, personal coolers only up to 28 quart)

No gas or electric generators will be allowed on the beach
-
No household furniture allowed (i.e. couches, recliners, etc.)

No hanging of banners from the pier
-
Team themes and customs should not be offensive
Note to Team Managers
You will be solely responsible for your team. Failure to abide by the rules (ESPECIALLY REGARDING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES and FIGHTING) may cause disqualification of your team or a player on your team. Tournament director has the final say for all rules and regulations.
