The West Basin Municipal Water District, the major supplier of freshwater in the South Bay, is considering a full-scale desalination plant on the Redondo Beach waterfront. Ocean-water desalination is the process of removing salt, other minerals and impurities from ocean water so that it can be used to supplement the existing water supply.
