Once a year, the normally peaceful streets of the seaside town of Carpinteria turn into a midway of fun during the annual California Avocado Festival. The festival offers an on-going schedule of events including three live music stages, the Avocado Expo tent offering an educational slant on the avocado industry, the “Largest Avocado” contest, “Best Guacamole Recipe” contest, and more than a hundred arts and crafts, commercial and food vendors. We’ll travel to the festival by way of Amtrak, transferring via motorcoach to Union Station in the morning and taking the Pacific Surfliner for the journey north. We’ll travel along the coast and enjoy the sight of stretches of long, white, sandy beach. Farmhouses flit by on one side, while the Channel Islands loom in the distance offshore. A short two hours later, we’ll disembark from the train and become immersed in the festivities of the 25th Annual Avocado Festival where you’ll have plenty of time for lunch on your own. Later in the afternoon, our motorcoach and driver will return us to Manhattan Beach.
