Community Meeting to Discuss Tree Removal

Come Learn About the Post Office Demonstration Garden

The City Council has approved a recommendation from its Environmental Task Force (ETF) to convert the existing landscape in front of the U.S. Post Office on 425 15th Street into a sustainable demonstration garden. The goal of the project is to create a green space in the community that is educational, functional, and beautiful. The demonstration garden seeks to promote culture change, while beautifying and drawing attention to a prominent part of the city.

The Environmental Task Force has partnered with the Leadership Manhattan Beach 2012 class to complete the project. Leadership Manhattan Beach will finalize the site design for presentation at a future City Council meeting.

To prepare for the project, the City conducted a site assessment of the property and determined that two trees on the project site are unhealthy and need to be removed. The City would like to hear any comments or concerns about this project during a public meeting, scheduled for Thursday, January 12th at 5:30 PM. Residents and interested parties are encouraged to attend and participate.

More information on the Post Office Demonstration Garden project is available on the City’s Going Green website. To submit public comments or for additional information, please contact Sona Kalapura, the City's Environmental Programs Manager, at (310) 802-5341.
