New six-inch diameter ductile iron water mains will be installed and the old four-inch cast iron mains will be abandoned in place. Ductile iron is more durable and the larger size will enhance water flows for domestic and fire suppression purposes.
The work will require trenching in the street, installation of the new water main and new service lines to each customer meter, new fire hydrants (adjacent to the existing hydrants) and finally, paving over the trench. Residents and businesses along adjacent to the work will encounter some inconvenience as the work occurs in their area. Access to private property will be maintained; however, lane closures, short-term detours and parking restrictions will be needed to perform the work. City project management staff and the contractor will reduce impacts as much as possible.
Work will begin on March 20, 2012 on Manhattan Avenue and Vista Drive. If you have any questions please contact Ed Kao, Project Manager at (310) 802-5358 or ekao@citymb.info.
