Purpose
Started in 2011, the Mayor's Youth Council (MYC) is an exciting new program that brings together high school students and community leaders. Each month, participating students will have the opportunity to meet and dialogue with local leaders in government, business, philanthropy, cultural arts, education, science and technology, and more!

The purpose of this new program is to complement academic studies, and:

• introduce students to leaders in our community from public, private, philanthropic and similar arenas; 
• share the wisdom and ways of leadership; 
• stimulate and feed curiosity and imagination; and 
• cultivate interest in civic stewardship.

Workshops
The program will commence with the school year each September and run through May. Students will meet on a regularly scheduled evening, once per month, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Each workshop will feature a different leader, or a panel in some cases, who will work with the participants through interactive discussion, sub-groups and activities. How to Participate
Program is open to:

• Manhattan Beach resident attending any high school (Sophomores to Seniors)
• Non-resident teen attending Mira Costa High School (Sophomores to Seniors)
• Must attend a minimum of 7 out of 9 scheduled monthly workshops from September 2013 through May 2014
• Prepare for and attend Graduation Ceremony before City Council on May 2014
• Motivated and committed to actively participate
• Submit application online by April 19, 2013 (Applications may close earlier once 100 applications are received)
• Requesting $100.00 to cover some of the cost, the City of Manhattan Beach supports all other costs of the program. (Needs-based scholarship available)

Application for the 2013 to 2014 School Year
