The Eco Gardener Program aims to increase community water conservation awareness, educate the public about the importance of groundwater in the region and “Smart Water” gardening practices. The Water Replenishment District of Southern California in collaboration with the City of Manhattan Beach are partnering to bring this free series to the residents.
Two more free classes will educate participants in sustainable strategies for making better use of water by using native plants and California friendly landscape design and maintenance, drip irrigation systems, smart controllers and mulch. The program also focuses on soil types and how to mitigate them for best gardening results, the importance of sun patterns and microclimates. Drought tolerant plant types and fruit gardening were also taught.
Classes will be held in the Public Works Training Room at 3621 Bell Avenue from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM. More information is available on the Eco Gardener flyer (PDF). To RSVP, please call: (562) 275-4235 or e-mail Thomas Martin.
