Join the Parks and Recreation Department and Commission as we shape the future of Manhattan Beach's parks, community centers, fields, aquatic and recreational facilities. Staff and commissioners are preparing a Parks Master Plan, or a road map, prioritizing projects based on a needs assessment and your ideas.

There are several ways to submit your ideas to staff and commissioners.

Attend a Community Input Meeting
Food and activities for all ages will be provided. The meeting format will be a casual, interactive open house event providing opportunities to share your input on the future of our parks and facilities. Staff and Parks and Recreation Commissioners will be available to receive your input for the 2-hour event. Stop by anytime during the meeting to share your thoughts.

• October 23rd from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Manhattan Heights Community Center

Take the online survey:
In preparation for a new Parks Master Plan, we ask that you complete this survey to help us create a vision for our parks. We have not included questions regarding the beach, as the beach is under the jurisdiction of the county of Los Angeles. This survey also excludes all Manhattan Beach Unified School District (MBUSD) owned facilities covered by the joint agreement between the City and MBUSD.

Overview
Manhattan Beach’s parks, beachfront, recreation programs, landscaping and cultural arts allow resident to enjoy diverse amenities. The Department believes in a healthy community and is committed to providing innovative programs for all ages, preserving and protecting our natural resources, and promoting and enhancing cultural and public art programs. The parks, recreation services, beach and major sporting events provide gathering, social and learning opportunities for residents. To best serve residents, park facilities and recreation services must continue to evolve, responding to the community’s changing demographics and interests.

Manhattan Beach park system consists of neighborhood parks, community parks, and school grounds for which the City and Manhattan Beach Unified School District maintain joint-use agreements, specifically for the use of playgrounds and fields. Facilities within Manhattan Beach include playgrounds, community centers, fields, and outdoor tennis and basketball courts which provide for active and passive recreation, and leisure opportunities. The beach and two-mile Strand bike path provide tremendous recreational opportunities to residents and are owned and managed by the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors. The Pier is owned by the State of California, with a long term operating agreement with the City of Manhattan Beach.

Purpose
The City of Manhattan Beach Parks Master Plan was last completed in 1988. Since then, the City’s demographics have changed and infrastructure continues to age. Therefore, the Parks and Recreation Department along with the Parks and Recreation Commission are developing a master plan that identifies and defines the parks and facility interests and needs of residents to provide a practical, comprehensive plan of action for meeting the immediate, short-term and long-range goals for the City of Manhattan Beach parks and recreational facilities. The goal of the master plan is to serve as a basis for planning and development of parks and recreation facilities and prioritization of park projects.
