Valley and Aviation Resurfacing Projects

Federal Stimulus Projects

  • Date: -

A Little Background on Both Projects
Recent available federal grants for local construction projects have made it possible for the City to perform some much-needed resurfacing work on both Valley Drive and Aviation Boulevard. The projects will encompass 15th Street to Sepulveda Boulevard along Valley Drive (map) and Aviation Boulevard from Manhattan Beach Boulevard to Marine Avenue (map), where the pavement has become deteriorated over time. There will be cold milling of the existing asphalt roadway surface and application of a new asphalt overlay, along with striping/traffic markings, traffic signal loops and minor concrete construction. In areas where there is significant deterioration, a full roadway reconstruction can be expected.

The General Contractor, Sully-Miller Contracting Co., began work on December 7, 2009. The projects are both estimated to last approximately 5 weeks.  The City has contracted with KOA–CBM Consulting firm to provide construction management and inspection services. KOA-CMB will have a representative on-site at all times during construction to assist residents as well as to coordinate and inspect the work. Affected residents within any imminent construction area will be given at least 72 hours advance notification. In order to assure completion of the project as scheduled, the Contractor will be permitted to work weekdays from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Traffic Control
Due to the nature of the work, intermittent street closures may be required throughout various phases of construction. The Contractor will do everything to minimize any disruptions but delays in this area are to be expected during construction so plan on taking alternate routes whenever possible. Trash collection and/or emergency vehicles will have continuous access to the area at all times.

Parking restriction and street closure signs will be posted 72 hours in advance. The Contractor is required to maintain access to residences in the work area; however, access to some driveways may temporarily be limited due to the construction of an adjacent curb and gutter, sidewalk, or driveway approach.

City staff and the Contractor will make every effort to keep inconveniences to a minimum. Your cooperation and support of this important infrastructure improvement are greatly appreciated!
