The Citywide Concrete Repairs Project involves upgrading many of the City’s existing damaged ramps to meet current ADA standards; reconstructing damaged curbs, gutters and cross gutters; and removing and replacing specific deteriorated Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) pavement slabs and driveway approaches at various locations within the City.
Chapter 7.12 of the Manhattan Beach Municipal Code assigns the responsibility for sidewalk repairs to the adjacent property owner. The City’s construction contract for the repair project includes a unit bid item for repairing damaged sidewalks, and residential property owners have the option to utilize the City’s bid rate for sidewalk repairs. By incorporating a unit rate with an indefinite quantity into the City’s bid documents, the City is able to provide homeowners a competitively priced option for having this necessary work completed by the City’s contractor. Property owners who take advantage of this can save time by not having to coordinate the work themselves, and they may also save money by avoiding the permitting and inspection fees that would be required if the work were performed by a private contractor.
