The City of Manhattan Beach has been facing frequent flooding issues throughout 2022-2023, particularly affecting residential properties along Peck Avenue and 23rd Street. As part of the solutions proposed in the City of Manhattan Beach 2021 Storm Drain Master Plan Update, our Engineering Division put forth the Peck Avenue Storm Drain Infrastructure Improvement Project. This project involves the construction of connecting storm drains and additional catch basins, all equipped with water-quality inserts. These measures will control and manage water flow during periods of heavy rainfall, significantly alleviating flooding issues for the residents of Peck Avenue, 21st Street, and 23rd Street. Beyond its primary goal, this project will also enhance local vegetation and biodiversity, thus strengthening our city's commitment to environmental sustainability and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the neighborhood. The Peck Avenue Storm Drain Infrastructure Improvement Project is indeed a critical initiative for our city. It promises to improve the quality of life for our residents and reinforce our environmental sustainability efforts.
The Citys recent Grant Funding request for the Peck Avenue Storm Drain Infrastructure Improvement Project has been accepted by Congressman Ted Lieu’s Community Funding Grant Program. The Engineering Division made this funding request via the Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development Agencies, and it falls under the purview of the Army Corps of Engineers (Civil) / Construction. The City of Manhattan Beach has requested a sum of $1,000,000 from Congressman Ted Lieu’s Community Funding Grant Program to facilitate this project. With this approval, these funds will be directed toward the necessary construction, landscaping, and infrastructure improvements. The key tasks ahead include finalizing the project design plans in collaboration with the Army Corps of Engineers, conducting a bidding process for the project's construction, and ensuring that all project components comply with environmental regulations and City ordinances.
